Mr. Momsen was born February 24, 1966 in Reno, Nevada. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1991 and has also been admitted to practice in several Federal Courts. Mr. Momsen is a 1991 graduate of the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. Mr. Momsen has had a general civil practice in Ukiah since 1999 and has handled litigation files from the initial pleading stage through trial and on some occasions, later, in the Court of Appeal. Prior to that, he practiced with insurance defense firms Gibbons, Lees & Conley in Walnut Creek and Leach & English in San Francisco where he defended auto and government entity insurers as well as their insured’s in civil lawsuits. From 1999-2005, Mr. Momsen represented the property owner in multi-million dollar civil suit against the City of Fort Bragg and the California Coastal Commission during which he received very favorable results for the client (Affinito vs. The City of Fort Bragg) He continues to advocate for property owners against government entities. Since moving to Ukiah in 1999, he has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in complex matters regarding breach of contract, breach of trust, personal injury, construction defect, and environmental contamination. Cases he has litigated on appeal include: Salazar v. Matejcek (2016) 245 Cal.App.4th 634;
From 1999-2005, Mr. Momsen served as a Judge Pro Tem for Mendocino County Superior Court hearing small claims and limited civil trials until this program was discontinued. Occasionally, Mr. Momsen still serves as a settlement conference official for the Court. Since 2005, he has been on retention as a mediator with Selzer Realty in Ukiah, CA where he has successfully resolved numerous contract disputes between buyers, sellers and brokers of real estate.
Since 1999, Mr. Momsen has served on the Board of Directors for Redwood’s Community Services- a Mendocino and Lake County nonprofit corporation that runs group homes, administers foster care, and provides a myriad of other help for children and their families. Mr. Momsen has served as Chair person, Vice Chair Person and Secretary on this Board. Mr. Momsen is an avid fisherman and enjoys angling in the rivers of the north coast for Steelhead, Trout and Salmon.
